President Yudhoyono asks bizmen to respond to lower fuel prices
President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has asked members of the business community to adjust the prices of their products to the lower subsidized fuel oil prices to be effective on January 15, 2009.
“The business community should have the heart to adjust the prices of their products. Their production costs will be lowered and therefore businessmen should not pretend not to know this and continue to maintain the old prices of their good or services,” the President said in his address at a function to mark the Indonesian Veteran Legion (LVRI)`s 52nd anniversary at the State Palace here on Tuesday, Januari 13, 2009.
The president said, following the cuts in subsidized fuel oil prices, transport fares, especially those of state-owned transportation companies like DAMRI, PT ASDP (Inland Waterway Transportation Service) and KAI (railway company) should automatically be reduced by 10 percent.
Yudhoyono said, over the past few months, the government had cut the premium gasoline price by 25 percent from Rp6,000 per liter to Rp5,000 per liter and the diesel oil price by 18.2 percent to Rp4,500 per liter.
“But the kerosene price will remain the same because its subsidy is big. The government has also lowered the basic electricity rate,” Yudhoyono said. (Antara)
